Mindset is the next frontier to success

Every once in a while an industry gets disrupted by a major, groundbreaking change. For the railway industry it is digitalisation which sets out to remove one of the main features of traditional railways, the signals along the railway lines. This comes with the introduction of cab signalling to replace "lights on masts", higher levels of automation and the quest for higher capacity and performance of the entire railway.

This change towards a digital, high capacity railway may well be the most fundamental change to railways since the introduction of signals, and that was way before you and I started our careers in railways. Or in other words, this will be the by far biggest change that you experience in your entire career in railways.

Now, it will not surprise you that every change, particularly a change as significant as this, requires adaptation by new ways of thinking, what I refer to as MINDSET. The biggest mistake that individuals, and whole organisations, can make is treating such a stepchange as "BAU" (business as usual) - because it is anything but BAU.

Let's assume you accept that a mindset shift is needed to embrace the future enabled by the technology change to a digital "High Capacity Railway". But this is much easier said than done and you may find it very hard to let go of your legacy mindset which served you so well throughout your entire railway career.

Here are a couple of reasons why you might find it so difficult to shift your mindset towards the "new world" of high capacity railways.

(1) You may not even be aware of your own legacy mindset kicking in, because you are so much used to it that it is just natural for you to think in the old ways.

(2) You do not know what the new mindset is you need to replace the old one with.

(3) Even if you did find out occasional examples of (1)-(2) combinations, you do not know how to transition from old to new thinking, without relapsing to the old ways.

This training sets out to help you with all three points above, by giving you not just a few, but a whopping sixty (that's a 6 with a 0!) examples of old-style legacy thinking, the specific new mindset for each example, and suggestions how to get to and stay with the required new way of thinking.

The biggest issue anyone has with a training on mindset is that they suspect someone will be "fiddling with their brain".

In that regard it may relieve you that I am NOT a psychologist or shrink, and I'm not secretly using mind-altering techniques on you such as NLP, hypnosis or anything else that may have you worried.

I am nothing more, but also nothing less, than a very experienced railway professional, just like you. Now, probably unlike you I have been successfully delivering trainings in advanced railway signalling technologies and concepts for nearly ten years. I have identified mindset as the next, and maybe ultimate frontier to successful introduction of new technology, which is often the missing piece even if everything else appears well thought through and "perfect" but success and benefits remain elusive.

And importantly I have probably spent more thought than anyone else in the railway industry how to accommodate and help railway professionals with that shift from their legacy mindset (which everyone has by default as it was their normal way of working until now) to the High Capacity Railway Mindset taught in this training.

Any elements of psychology that I might be teaching is very much hands-on, and only because it has helped me personally achieve my own mindset shifts in the past, or today if necessary. I think that is both fair and transparent to you. Agreed?

What you get in this training

Let me be "frank" with you (my name is my concept), this training is not a conserve thrown together from previous material. This is absolutely cutting-edge stuff which I keep researching and refining as we journey together through this training.

When it dawned to me that mindset is the next barrier once I trained railway professionals how modern signalling technologies work and how they can be applied for best possible outcomes, I browsed through my flagship training course "CBTC Kickstarter" with my newly-opened attention to potential mindset issues. And I discovered more than seventy (70!) examples where people can stumble due to outdated old ways of thinking and approaching the new technology.

Some of those 70 examples overlap, that's why I "only" commit to 60 examples which I present you in this training. I will give you five examples in every weekly module, for twelve weeks in a row. Why only drip-feeding five at a time? Because you should not get overwhelmed by too many at once, you need time to digest and apply the weekly five ways of new thinking (while unlearning the old-think) for a while before adding more.
